Jonathan began working with campers at Ballibay in 2021 when he directed a devised theater piece based upon the camp’s history entitled Our Town Ballibay. Since 2021, Jonathan has directed productions of Eugene Ionesco’s The Lesson and an adaptation of the folktale The Corpse Bride at Ballibay. This summer, Jonathan will return to create a brand-new devised theater piece with Ballibay Campers exploring the concept of “curiosity.” So, if you’re curious about curiosity, talk to Jonathan. A published children’s book author, Jonathan has taught children’s book writing at the camp for the past three summers.

Professional Bio:
Jonathan Jacobs has worked in the theater since 1999 and is a founding member of the multi-award-winning performance collective The National Theatre of the United States of America. Last summer, Jonathan was the recipient of a Space at Ryder Farm Creative Residency where he worked on his first middle grade children’s fantasy novel The Girl Who Breathed Dragons. His debut children’s picture book The Secret Rhino Society was published by Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books in 2020. Jonathan holds a bachelor’s degree in Theater from Skidmore College, a Master’s in Education from the Bank Street College of Education and a Master’s in media studies from Queens College.
