Attended Camp:
2022, 2023, 2024

This will be my third year working at Camp Ballibay. My first year was as one of the DTH Division Heads and in the costumes and fibers department, last year the DTH Division Head role was switched to the Dean of Staff, and this year has changed again to the Residential Coordinator. I think I’m most excited to get the opportunity to creatively explore with all of the other wonderful artist/counselors and campers to find the intersectionality of our different art mediums and unique processes. However, I’m also really excited to just disconnect from society and technology and really reset and recharge in all of the beautiful nature around campus.

Professional Bio:
Brandon Alston is a costume design and technologies major at the College of Charleston. For the past 2 years he’s owned and run Fresh Prince Fits Designs a sustainable clothing brand and an alternative to fast fashion. He grew up watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and always loved how Will Smith challenged fashion stereotypes by being completely and uniquely himself. He wanted his designs to embody that same originality while repairing and reworking people’s loved clothing. Throughout his college career he’s designed or work on a number of theatre productions, short films, and fashion shows both through the school and with other local independent theaters and artists. As well as a fashion/costume designer, Brandon is also an actor with a number of credits on his resume including multiple short films and a handful of stage appearances such as Omari from Pipeline, Mlima from Mlima’s Tale and Fitswilliam Darcy from Miss Bennet’s Christmas at Pemberly. As Brandon approaches his graduation this May, he’s excited to close out his time at CofC with some new professional artistic opportunities and challenges like, having one of his fiber art (sewing) collections featured in the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art in Charleston, as well as acting in a motion capture animated short film and in the CofC, gender-bent production of the Importance of Being Ernest as Miss Prism.
